Remove Basic Settings from User Profile in Joomla! 2.5
When creating an edit page for your users in Joomla!, you may notice that in the default form, you are provided with two fieldsets:
  • Edit Your Profile
  • Basic Settings

The Edit Your Profile wraps the fields for your username, password and email address. On the other hand, Basic Settings shows you the fields for Editor to Use, Time Zone and Language.

Now since the Basic Settings, isn't that important as the Edit Your Profile part, you may want to remove this or technically, "hide it".

To do so, here is the step-by-step way of doing it.
  1. Log in in the back-end (administrator)

  2. Go to User Manager

  3. Click Options

  4. Look for Frontend User Parameters and set it to hide

  5. Save and close

That should do it, you may now check the frontend to see that the Basic Settings fieldset is already hidden.
